What is the historcic global postal league?

The old 200 yard- 30 round SMLE shoot

The historic global league started life a a competition between the Lee Enfield Rifle Association in Great Britain and the 57th Battalion rifle club in Sydney. The 57th stopped taking part in the shoot and so the SMLE shoot continued alone at the LERA. It was resurrected by Raf Jah and Graham Murgatroyd, who single handily kept this competition going between the two nations. Firstly with the Hill End Rifle Club and then through the Trans-Continental Rifle Association. You can find here the results of the Global Postal Shoot. It is impressive that over 60 riflemen from around the globe took part in this shoot, to produce these results.

The numbers could have been higher, it has been hard to get the Irishmen to take part, but we are working on this, as are they. The Canadians have so far proved utterly useless.  But most sad of all, was the loss of the LERA. Graham Murgatroyd- co founder of TCRA (I) and the LERA (A) said “sadly the LERA (UK) would not share their scores this year, and so we lost a large number of potential competitors. This saddens me as they were the founders of this competition”. We hope they will take part next year.

PLEASE NOTE THE 200 YARD -30 ROUND SHOOT HAS NOW BEEN DISCONTINUED, AND ALL FURTHER RESULTS SUBMITTED WILL BE DISCARDED- SORRY, THERE HAD TO BE A CUT OFF!

The new 50 round – dynamic quarterly HGL competitions

What this has done however has galvanised interest in historic rifle shooting around the globe. After listening to feedback, we realised that it was hard to get people to travel to shoot a 30 round comp. Thus the old 200 yard 30 round shoot has been consigned to the history books. These results below are the last ever of the old “one comp per year” postal shoot.

Now we have a much more challenging and interesting series of shoots for the enthused historic service rifle shooter.  At the behest of the members, we have created a global postal league. Blair Drummond, an accomplished shooter, range officer and TCRA and LERA member came up with the idea of a series of four historic matches held throughout the year, shot by Lee Enfield enthusiasts around the world (with the occasional Mauser) , with their three best scores counting towards the final score.

This allows any shooter to miss one of the matches, as his top best three matches will be counted. The scores will be placed here at the same time next year.  Until then congratulations to Graham Murgatroyd, Brett Anthes and F. De Jong for taking the first second and third prize in the 2018 Historic Global Postal Shoot. To be clear, the HGL shoots are open to all rifles as per the match conditions below:

PLEASE EMAIL RAF@KAYAKPEMBA.COM FOR THE NEW COURSES OF FIRE AND AN ENTRY FORM. THE LEAGUE IS OPEN TO ALL FRIENDS AROUND THE GLOBE.
