CSR shooting in Australia
Civilian Service Rifle Shooting in Australia
At the TCRA, we’re all about international competition—the word transcontinental gives it away! We were formed through our connection with the Hill End Rifle Club, who remain firm friends to this day.
Australia has various forms of civilian service rifle shooting. While many are close to CSR, sadly, few maintain the same purity of the true service rifle shooter. There’s nothing quite like stepping onto the firing point with just your rifle, ammunition, and binoculars. Nothing else. No jackets, no tripods, no mats, no electronic devices.
A few years ago, the TCRA began a campaign of cooperation. We had some false starts—our enthusiasm wasn’t always matched, and a few rules were bent along the way. The real breakthrough came when some outstanding NRAA members travelled to Bisley to shoot the CSR Imperial. It was an unforgettable experience, and lasting friendships were forged.
The Castlemaine Rifle Club soon agreed to shoot a British-style international CSR match, followed closely by the Tiaro District Rifle Club in Queensland.
Our first international matches were 200 yards with 50 rounds. They’ve since evolved into a 100–400 yard, 40-round competition that’s now gaining real momentum. If your club—wherever in the world you may be—wants to take part, we can supply targets at cost, and you can simply send us your scores.
